The Devonshire is Vispring's entry point into the hand-crafted range, building its case entirely on British wool with three distinct layers, each serving a different purpose from surface to core. The ticking is woven from wool and viscose, a pairing that keeps the cover soft against the skin while the viscose adds durability for decades of use. Beneath it, a layer of hand-teased Devonshire fleece wool provides immediate give—teasing opens the fibres to promote airflow and moderate temperature throughout the night, rather than trapping it. A further layer of British fleece wool beneath adds depth and resilience, ensuring the surface does not compress unevenly over time.
The spring system features a single tier of 1,716 hand-nested, calico-pocketed Vanadium steel coils in a King size, with each spring in its own calico pocket responding to weight independently to support sleepers of different builds without interference. Vanadium steel maintains tension longer than standard carbon steel, a material choice mirrored across the range. The Devonshire is available in four tension options—Soft, Medium, Firm, and Extra Firm—and King sizes can be split at the centre for partners with different preferences. Two rows of hand side-stitching secure the border coils to the mattress edge, preserving a firm and consistent sleeping surface to the very perimeter. Hand-tufting with felt washers anchors fillings in place at regular intervals, preventing lateral shift and maintaining evenness for years of use.
